Joanna DeVoto
Joanna DeVoto, a highly accomplished orchestra director at Ereckson Middle School, has consistently led her ensembles to success. A graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she served as President of the Symphony Orchestra, she honed her musical skills under the direction of Dr. Carol Smith and studied cello with Dr. Peter Kempter. Since beginning her career in 2002, Mrs. DeVoto has established a legacy of excellence, achieving numerous UIL Sweepstakes and Best in Class awards. Notably, her Ereckson orchestras have repeatedly distinguished themselves in the prestigious TMEA Honor Orchestra competition, with the Symphony Orchestra making history as the first instrumental TMEA Honor Group from Allen ISD in 2018. Both the Chamber and Full Orchestras have also earned national recognition through the Mark of Excellence competition. Beyond her conducting achievements, Mrs. DeVoto was honored as Ereckson’s 2018 Teacher of the Year and received a Honorary Lifetime PTA membership in 2024. She remains an active clinician and judge throughout Texas and is affiliated with several prominent music education organizations including Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and Mu Omicron. Outside of her professional life, she cherishes time with her husband, fellow orchestra director David DeVoto, and their daughter, Daniela.
